To
monitor traffic flow and Bridge security, we have a
24-hour closed circuit television (CCTV) camera
installed at 9 locations along the laybys and main
span. The CCTV cameras are connected to our Penang
Bridge Communication Centre. There were 5 units CCTV camera installed at mainland and 5 units at Penang Island to enhance traffic monitoring surveillance service and response time to serve users in time of incident or congestion.
Our Bridge are also equipped with 12 emergency
telephones (ET) which are located along both bounds
at 1.2 km intervals on Bridge laybys and the Main
span. This facility allows communication between ET
call box and the control center at PBCC. Motorists
who are in need of assistance can call our
BRIDGELINE at 1300-1300-03.
Our 24-hour bridge patrolling vehicles can handle
minor breakdowns. There are 12 laybys on the Bridge
of which 1 breakdown layby each at Prai (mainland)
and Gelugor (Island)
We provide 10 lanes for motorcycle and 14 lanes for other classes of vehicles that give motorists a choice of two drive-through options using SmartTAG and Touch ‘n Go. As part of our enhancement effort to upgrade the toll payment service, we have designated 2 SmartTAG lanes and 3 Touch ‘n Go lanes for the motorist of Class 2 vehicles and 2 lanes for motorcycle respectively. However, payment by cash is acceptable at all lanes excluding the SmartTAG lanes. |
