20% Discount on Toll Rate
The 20% discount on toll rate was initially given as an incentive to the loyal customer of the bridge since the operation of the Penang Bridge by Malaysia Highway Authority (MHA) in 1985. At that time, majority of regular commuters from the government agencies, manufacturers and transporters purchased the discount vouchers in bulk and used them at Penang Bridge Toll.
This privilege was then continued when Penang Bridge was privatized and the operations are taken over by Penang Bridge Sdn Bhd (PBSB) in 1994 and the prepaid voucher was substituted with electronic tag (Bridge Tag) and smart card (Bridge Card). In year 2000, the Touch ‘n Go card was introduced by Rangkaian Segar Sdn Bhd. Technically, PBSB has also changed the electronic card device from Bridge Tag and Bridge Card to Touch ‘n Go card for Penang Bridge Toll transaction and the rebate of 20% on toll rate was retained throughout.
Effective from 15 June 2010, the offer of 20% discount was restricted to Penangites and those who working in Penang. In view of that, public are required to produce their MyKads or letter of consent from their employer as an evidence for the new purchase of Touch ‘n Go card at Penang Bridge Touch ‘n Go Sales Counter.
This privilege is one of the major CSR contributions offered by PBSB to the public and it is a philanthropic benefit to be continuously enjoyed by bridge users.
Point of Sales (POS)
Despite individual reload lane at toll plaza, PBSB provides the Touch ’n Go Sales Centre for user’s convenience in terms reloads or for the purchase of a new card. The Touch’n Go Sales Centre at PBSB which also known as Point of Sales (POS) was set up since 1985 and its operation hours start from
7:00am to10:00pm on weekday and close on weekends/public holidays.
20% Toll Rebate Program for Frequent Tolled Highway Users
The Minister of Works on 1 September 2009 has announced the 20% toll rebate for 80 toll transactions in a month for the frequent users of SmartTag and Touch ‘n Go using the tolled highway including the Penang Bridge. The program was designed to alleviate the financial burden of frequent tolled highway users.
User can bring their Touch ‘n Go card to any nearby sales counter or to the Touch ‘n Go Sales Centre at PBSB for accreditation of rebate value and for redemption procedure. The rebate value is calculated based on a minimum usage of 80 toll transactions for a particular month and it will be credited into user’s Touch ‘n Go card on the following month. The rebate value is not transferable to cash and it is valid for 6 months.
Users can enjoy this rebate program together with the 20% discounted scheme of toll rate at Penang Bridge.
